A bit of Europe...The Netherlands (Kawałek Europy... Holandia)

Dear Sons,
I though it would be good to show you something more than only Switzerland - the whole Europe is beautiful - I think you can learn something about it also from Jaromir's teacher - Mrs. Wright. There are many different countries in Europe (also Poland and Switzerland are in Europe), and I would like to tell you something about one of them visited recently by me - The Kingdom of the Netherlands (Holland)
So what is so special about it? First of all it still has a King (Queen to be more exact) which Dutch people are very proud of. Other very interesting thing is that about one quarter of the Netherlands lies below sea level, as much land has been reclaimed from the sea. But what I like very much about it are the fantastic Stroopwafels - You also liked them very much.
What I recently learned was that in Netherlands Santa Claus (there called Sinterklaas) is not coming from Laponia in sledges pulled by reindeers, but he is riding over the roofs of houses on a gray horse, and arriving from Spain by steamboat!!! I even have one picture for you that I have seen there (on the right).  Dutch Santa Claus is assisted by many mischievous helpers with black faces and colourful Moorish dresses. These helpers are called 'Zwarte Pieten' (Black Petes). They are very nice and happy and give sweets and presents to kids and grownups ;-) - and the best thing was that they arrive in the middle of November!!! And then until the December 5th the kids leave some snacks for the Sinterklaas' horse in their shoes and get some sweets in return - for example a first letter of their name made of chocolate... On December 6th Sinterklaas leaves and the present giving time is over. We still can wait for X-mass afterwards ;-) I will tell you some more when we see each other,

I love you and miss you a lot,
Dad

Mam nawet jedno zdjęcie dla Was.

Tata
