Fribourg (Freiburg) [Fryburg]

My Dearest Sons,
Today I want to show you next beautiful city I am connected to. It is Fribourg in Switzerland. Fribourg is a French name of the city, German-speaking people call it Freiburg, Polish call it Fryburg. Be careful - there are two cities with the same name about 200 km (120 miles) far apart.

dzisiaj chcę Wam pokazać następne piękne miasto z którym jestem w jakiś sposób związany. Jest to Fryburg w Szwajcarii, zwany z niemiecka Freiburg, lub fracuska Fribourg. Ale uwaga - są dwa Fryburgi oddalone od siebie o 200 km. 


The one in Germany is, however, called sometimes Freiburg im Breisgau. The Swiss city is almost 900 years old - the town was founded in 1157. Take a look at the pictures of the city walls and a beautiful old wooden bridge - they were taken by my friend Paweł when we went there.

Niemiecki Fryburg jest jednak czasem nazywany Fryburgiem nad Breisgau. Szwajcarski ma już prawie 900 lat - prawa miejskie uzyskał w roku 1157. Zerknijcie na zdjęcia na górze - mury miejskie, po lewej wspaniały kryty most drewniany - oba zdjęcia zrobił mój przyjaciel Paweł, gdy byliśmy we Fryburgu. 




This bridge still serves its purpose - but to get there one has to go down to the lower part of the city which is over 60 meters (around 200 ft) below the main Old Town. The best way to get there is to take a ride with the old Funicular ->  http://www.seilbahn-nostalgie.ch/fribourg.html

Most ciągle działa doskonale - jeżdżą po nim autobusy miejskie. Aby się jednak do niego dostać trzeba zejść do "dolnego" Fryburga, który jest ponad 60 metrów poniżej "górnego" Starego Miasta. A najfajniejszy i najszybszy sposób by to zrobić to przejazd starą kolejką górską ->

The Old Town is beautiful and one can feel the history hidden in these old Town Walls. Both old towns, upper and lower, are amazing, however, I think that the most impressive buildings there are the bridges. I especially like the train bridge built by a Polish engineer - one can go over the Sarine river right under railway tracks.

Stare miasto, zarówno górne, jak i dolne jest piękne i czuje się w nim ducha wieków. To co jednak wydaje mi się najciekawszą częścią Fryburga to wspaniałe kamienne mosty. Ja szczególnie lubię most pociągowy nad rzeką Sarine zbudowany przez polskiego inżyniera. Żeby pokazać Wam jak wygląda z zewnątrz pożyczyłem zdjęcie znalezione w internecie poniżej. Mam jeszcze mnóstwo zdjęć z Fryburga, ale mam nadzieję, że pokażę je Wam kiedyś sam.
